I’m back!!!!

Had a business trip to the fair city of Boston. I know, that’s tough. I don’t mind working hard, cuz you know, then I play hard, as evidenced by this silliness at a cigar store:

And this adventure, in front of Motif #1:

It was a nice break from routine, full of culinary adventures, laughs from deep places, sunny drives, companionable strolls, and the sudden and unexpected appearance of the bluebird of happiness.

it’s poetry time in class

I thought I’d switch it up a little this time. I usually play this Al Green and Queen Latifah duet, Simply Beautiful, but this time I’m going with something a little different, not in English, to see if my students respond to the sound and the imagery.

It still has that part where I present Emily Dickinson’s definition of poetry:

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry. These are the only way I know it.  Is there any other way?

I’ll share the lyrics with them after, but first, I’ll see how they react. I’m guessing, this group probably doesn’t listen to  Coldplay 🙂

To complicate things, the video isn’t the official Coldplay one, it’s a magnificent cover by the Piano Guys. It. Is. Gorgeous.

.

I’m going to ask the class to think about their paradise…what’s yours?

I could rattle off a list of things I’d like…you know….things…and I’m ashamed that’s where my mind went first. But as I thought it through…paradise is what I want. Heaven. What a grand party we’ll all have, won’t we?

[Here’s some trivia about me: I thought of treating myself to piano lessons when I turn 50, but if you know me and my love of strings, maybe I should take up the cello. That should torment the dog. Seriously, aren’t the Piano Guys incredible? I could rock an electric cello, right?]

it’s a full moon. that’s my excuse.

I have just experienced the ineluctable joy of a fluffernutter sandwich.

How have I missed this delight for almost 50 years? It is heavenly.

My husband is 1 part disgusted, and 3 parts astounded that there is marshmallow fluff in the house, but that is neither here nor there because…

I am in midnight snack heaven. And it’s only 9:45 PM.

Fortnight for Freedom

It’s about religious freedom, y’all, and it’s nothing to sit back and take lightly.

“The challenge facing you, dear friends, is to increase people’s awareness of the importance for society of religious freedom; to defend that freedom against those who would take religion out of the public domain and establish secularism as America’s official faith.  And it is vitally necessary for the very survival of the American experience, to transmit to the next generation the precious legacy of religious freedom and the convictions which sustain it.”—  Blessed John Paul II, 1995 Baltimore, Basilica of the Assumption

the Great Twitter Wars Part 2

I was already indignant with the mockingbirds eating all my blueberries.

This morning I woke up to another indignity. I caught a great big ole fat squirrel on my feeder (not John’s lesser, rejected one) and that little sonovagun was eating the birdseed right out of the top of the feeder.

How in the world did he get that open?

Let me tell you he was going to town in there, too. I did a double take when I first saw it because I wasn’t sure it was, in fact, a squirrel. Oh, yes it was, and that little chunky monkey was getting fatter on my nickel. Um, birdseed.

The cardinals were a little put out by it, too, because they were dive-bombing the feeder like a bunch of World War II aces.

It was rather entertaining right up until I’d remember I was insulted by the squirrel, then I’d be all mad again and everything.

Of course, I wasn’t so mad that I didn’t see the hilarity of it, so I grabbed the camera so I could share it.

Because I love you like that, dear reader.
