back with some Quick Takes

My inability to be present on social media has been a little random and mostly non-existent. At first I was distressed by it because it wasn’t necessarily a choice, but it has coincided with Lent, and working out rather nicely. I admit that I’m not all that distressed by it. I’m checking in a few times…in the morning, maybe late afternoon. It’s working out well for me…you know, not so many “I’m having a cup of coffee” tweets, instead, I’m enjoying some real time banter and then moving on.

–2–

Speaking of Twitter, had a hilarious exchange with my daughter. Actually, it was a couple of retweets, and her wry observation that followed. There was a lot of buzz about Leap Day, and these played nicely into that fun:

My retweet:

Her retweet:

Immediately after that I got this text message from her:

Your most recent retweet followed by my most recent retweet is a funny juxtaposition of our generation’s mentalities 🙂

It led to a really great conversation in real time, on the phone, and what’s not to love about that?

–3–

Gonna have a little trip to New Orleans! I’ll take an epi-pen. Should I eat this?

–4–

A series of delightful events this week reminded me of this lovely picture I took a while ago at the Sacred Heart Cultural Center in Augusta, GA. I posted a bunch of pictures here. I really like this picture because the sun beams illuminate the whole space. I’ve been thinking an awful lot about Mary’s fiat since I’m working through a total consecration to Jesus through Mary.

–5–

Sometimes I get in wild moods and write poetry and actually share it, instead of shoving it under my mattress. A couple of people actually read it. I mean, besides my mother. The nice people over at Catholic Lane  are posting it! Click on my pretty little picture and you can read it, too!

–6–

My honey gave me an early birthday present! In fact, it was a lovely launch for birthday week! (yes, my birthday is very soon).

–7–

And the birthday week celebrations continue…this was breakfast, made by my own Honey, with some local honey. It better hold me til dinner 🙂

7 Quick Takes Friday: Christmas!

Check out the collection of other 7 Quick Takes Friday posts, hosted at Jennifer Fulwiler’s blog, Conversion Diary

–1–

My Macbook broke a few weeks ago and I had finals and other things that kept me from the Apple store. I discovered that I really really really like my laptop. Does that make me shallow?

–2–

I turned in my grades on Monday, did some stuff at work, and came home to my Christmas vacation. My dear hubby had taken care of the Christmas shopping for our kids, so I hadn’t gone shopping yet, unless you count the office secret santa….Anyway, it was absolutely refreshing to not have that stress of hitting malls although I did eventually get around to it on Wednesday. Because I’m a glutton for punishment.

–3–

On Tuesday I went on a crazy road trip with Christy to Augusta to get a fishing reel repaired. Don’t ask — I rarely need an excuse for an adventure — and what an adventure we had.

–4–

We discovered the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, which is absolutely beautiful. I posted a bunch of pictures here, but the one I included in this post is my favorite and isn’t in the slide show. I took it on my phone because I was taken by the sight. The church is desanctified (which makes me so sad) and I was caught by surprise to walk out into this giant open space and see the beauty of that window. There are some close ups on the slide show, but what I really liked about this picture is that the sun beams illuminate the whole space. I’ve been thinking an awful lot about Mary’s fiat, captured in this beautiful image of the Annunciation, so it was a double treat to encounter this lovely scene.

–5–

This is a picture of my fireplace. Why is it empty, you ask? Because it’s 70 degrees. I am not in Miami, but there’s a hurricane outside, and John turned on the air conditioning. On the first day of winter. Air conditioning. Maybe I’ll fill it with poinsettias.

–6–

My honey gave me an early Christmas present! It was berry good!

–7–

I didn’t wait. (and  shared!)

Merry Christmas!

7 Quick Takes Friday: Turkey Edition

Check out the collection of other 7 Quick Takes Friday posts, hosted at Jennifer Fulwiler’s blog, Conversion Diary

–1–

There was a turkey, all right. We just didn’t eat it!

–2–

In fact, we almost didn’t eat at all. I didn’t even finish setting the table. . .

–3–

Somebody got real sick, real fast. In fact, he still looks like a giant strawberry this morning.

–4–

It wouldn’t be a holiday with Morera’s without a trip to the Emergency Room. It’s just, it’s usually a broken bone. . .

And it’s usually…

or . . .

–5–

So here’s a thankful prayer that the little ones are safe and sound…and the big one returned, pumped full of benadryl and other stuff, but hungry as a horse.

–6–

Here’s the pork roast that had cooked all day (and then…all evening!)

–7–

And there was no pumpkin pie…a flan instead!

Here’s hoping you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! And the gentle reminder that every day is for giving thanks.

cleaning up after a messy week

–1–

This has been a wacky week of ups and downs. Actually, it’s just been ups. Really. One up after the other. And not the kind that makes me sit around and wonder when the other shoe is going to drop. Most of it has a lot to do with me getting a much needed attitude adjustment.

.

–2–

It required a little more adjusting, as a matter of fact.

–3–

Still working on the CNMC 2012 program. It consumes my Fridays, but I like it. Nothing like good work that one enjoys.

–4–

Had a hilarious twitter conversation with my BFF from high school that included, of all things, Earth, Wind, and Fire. This particular song brings back many memories of parties and crushes…and other teenage melodrama. We’ve come a long way! Martha’s writing children’s books now!

.

–5–

So yeah, did I say she wrote a children’s book? This book trailer cracked me up! Go Martha! Not the stuff of crazy notes in Mr. Wycoff’s class.

.

–6–

The annual Christmas cleansing is upon me. I am in a perpetual snit about de-cluttering. Obviously, I am getting it wrong if I am still still STILL doing this. But…moving on. Am gathering things for Goodwill and the dump. I wonder how much I’ll be able to sneak past the primary generators of the clutter. Because, of course, we all know I couldn’t possibly be responsible for any of it, right?

–7–

And speaking of de-cluttering, off to a little quiet time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. A little internal de-cluttering is in order, too.

some quick takes, quickly

–1–

It’s raining, and I love rainy days. I expect to get much accomplished today, and it includes a little bit of cleaning, a little bit of cooking, and a little bit of writing. The fact that I got to this post so early is a good sign for that last desire for today: a little bit of writing.

–2–

I got some really good direction for a literary analysis that I need to write. I know that sounds like homework, and it actually is, of a sort, but I’m nerdy that way, and so is the friend who suggested the theme, so…what can I say, I’m in nerd nirvana rereading the book and coming up with a thesis.

–3–

I ate some authentic Indian cuisine this week with a great friend at work. We decided that Wednesdays need to be our sanity days, and so we’re making an effort to get out and breathe and take a mini-retreat. I’ve eaten pseudo Indian fare before — but this meal was exceptional. Also, I’ve made a mental note that this is not a good choice for work lunches. Before you think things went south in the plumbing department, no, not that. I just feel like I smelled like onions and curry the rest of the day. Gum was not enough.

–4–

Put together some poetry. Let me say that I am alternately enjoying writing it and mortified by the feeling it is trite and just plain goofy. But that’s just the usual neurosis. Evidently I need to compose something about basketball. Don’t anybody hold your breath on that.

–5–

So I was going to Chicago. Then not going. Then going. Then not. Finally, I didn’t. And that’s that. No big deal, but I got a bonus day of writing. What’s not to love.

–6–

The CNMC is almost here! Are you going? You should. You really really should. Check it out here.

–7–

I took a mental health day earlier this week…and I have to say, I need to work those into my schedule more often. I take some artist dates on Fridays, just doing a little quiet time with myself kind of stuff and getting some inspiration for writing, but this mental health day was more like an artist date with a friend. It was refreshing, productive, fun, enlightening, goofy, adventurous, eye-opening, tender, wacky, prayerful, educational, and most of all a beautiful blessing. Amen.
